I’m Autumn Sun, a rising Junior at the University of Kansas, originally from Kansas City. Coming into college, I had no idea where I wanted to take my finance career. Being at a non-target school was a challenge, I didn’t have access to the built-in alumni networks that students at target schools rely on. On top of that, I had no family mentors to lean on. I am a non-target incoming sophomore and in my search for good investment banking prep I came across IB Launchpad and was introduced to Financeable through it. Before Financeable, I had an accounting background from my audit internship at Dauby O’Connor & Zaleski (DOZ). I also have my Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) with training in Pillars of Wall Street. However, when I started the accounting fundamentals course it was structured much differently than I had originally thought. With my accounting background I could have tested out of the accounting modules, and I did, but I am currently revisiting the modules I tested out of because of the value it has. Each module teaches you interview questions, navigating Excel, and a professional in-depth explanation into complex topics. Throughout the course of my college years, I've been exposed to Wall Street Prep, Training the Street, and Financeable. My college hires TTS to come in and teach financial statement projections as well as corporate valuation. During my investment banking internship this past summer, we had access to Wall Street Prep courses as well as intensive sessions during training week. However what really has made Financeable my go to choice for educating and sharping my technical skills is really the way the courses are able to take complex topics and break it down digestibly. Something that both WSP and TTS don't offer are the simple images that Financeable puts on screen while explaining the topics. This was a game changer for me as a visual learner. As a freshman, majoring in Finance at a non-target school, my only exposure to finance prior to Financeable was a semester long introductory accounting class. I want to emphasize two things here: it was an introduction to accounting, and lasted an entire semester. To most students, that pace of learning is typical, and expected at most levels. However, in December, I was introduced to Financeable, and acquired more knowledge in the succeeding two months than I ever thought was possible. By March, I thoroughly understood multiple facets of high level Finance including valuation, leveraged buyouts, modeling, and many conceptual frameworks. Now, how is this possible? In my opinion it comes down to two characteristics Financeable possesses. One is the nature in which the lectures are presented. Rather than feeling like your sitting through a lecture trying to analyze outdated textbook figures, it feels like you are watching a whiteboard visualized you tube video. The explanations are extremely conceptual. It feels like Mike is trying to personally burn the simple construct into your brain rather than you trying to memorize important words and then apply your own understanding to them. Secondly, the measurability and performance tracking encourages a competitive atmosphere both with yourself and your peers. The leaderboard, daily streaks, point accumulation, and heat maps all combine to create a highly productive environment for the user. Before taking the Financeable Accounting and Valuation courses, I had a very surface-level understanding of these concepts. I memorized formulas and basic interview answers, but I did not truly understand how the three financial statements connected or the difference between enterprise value and equity value. If an interviewer pushed deeper on a question, I would usually struggle to explain the logic behind the answer in a simple and confident way. After completing the courses, I finally felt like I understood the material instead of just memorizing it. The content was structured in a way that made the concepts click, especially when it came to understanding financial statement flow, valuation fundamentals, and how different parts of a model connect together.
